A Running History

The words Excellence in Action aren’t just a clever slogan.

Since my earliest artistic work in 1990 I have pursued a vision of excellence. First as true-to-life pencil sketches, detailed pen & ink drawings, realistic watercolors and acrylics, then technical drawings in AutoCad while in high school in 1992. As an artist in action I began using Windows Paint in early 1995 to draw photo-realistic faces and figures pixel by pixel. A multimedia class at Hampshire College in the spring of 1996 introduced radical new drawing tools — Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Macromedia Director, and Specular Infini-D.

In 2000 the Kanoa.net site was launched to consolidate my portfolio. This page is primarily a timeline of my achievements, but might also stem any confusion: if you see something terrible on this site it’s probably from early in my career!

1996

Working at CopyCat Print Shop in Amherst, Massachusetts

Vector-Based Eye Study using Adobe Illustrator
Models of Fruit in the Desk Scene and 3D animation
Established extant practice of 400 dpi basis for all raster-based print artwork, due to high-quality output of Xerox MajestiK.
Began using Adobe Pagemaker and Quark XPress

1997

Started taking freelance design work
